I was a little frustrated when the upgrade online via my current (well expired) Norton’s was going to cost me more than it did last year (almost 60 bucks and it was only $49.99 last year) so I came here to see if I could save a little money and I did! I was a little afraid to download it at first because I saw that it might only work until Dec 2010, but I took the chance anyway because my subscription expired today. Well, after the successful download, I copied down the Product Key, I did the upgrade via the “renew now” tab on my current (expired) Norton’s, and it gave me 366 days! Yes! And it was less than 40 bucks so I’m happy about that. I only did this review in case someone else is in the same situation I was in tonight – afraid to download it! :) It’s all good.

I was torn between renewing my subscription through the retailer, or switching products to save money. I’m glad I searched on Amazon and read Wifey’s review. This online purchase is the same exact thing for almost half the price. What is Norton thinking? They need to cut their prices in this economy if they want people to keep buying/renewing direct from them. It almost makes me regret staying with them, but I didn’t want to waste the time uninstalling this product from my computers to make space for a whole new software program.

Anyway, with the product code from this purchase, the renewal is a done deal in 1 minute flat.

I have used Norton as my virus protection for quite a few years and prefer Norton over McAfee. As a matter of fact my new laptop that came with a 30 day trial of McAfee just got replaced with this Norton download. This virus scan easily found and deleted 3 viruses I had on my PC and I was pleasantly pleased with the speed in which it performed this total task. Norton offers free backup online with this software too. Buying this from Amazon saved close to half off verses buying direct from Norton’s website. Gotta love Amazon! Download time is minimal if you aren’t using dialup. Only took about 10 minutes for my PC which is on DSL. Laptop took a little longer due to wireless connection, but still only about 15 minutes. This is well worth the money.

Easy, fast download using Amazon’s Games and Software Downloader. Super-quick install. Fast scan. Only reason I’m not giving the product 5 stars (unfairly?) is that an earlier purchase of the product ended up with malware getting in and keeping it from loading. I would think that issue has long been resolved. Outstanding price and ease of getting it on your machine. No slow down after install. Top-rated….wow!

First, I want to thank the other reviewers — thank you for answering so many of my questions, especially the first reviewer, “Wifey.”

Now — like many of you I had a Norton Security Suite 2009 subscription — running on Windows XP2 Professional — that had expired — in my case a day ago. I was not happy to see that renewing it at the Norton website would cost me over $50 plus a service fee, for a total of $65 !!!!!

That seemed to be a lot more money than it cost me last year. Too much for my budget in this economy. I considered switching to another, cheaper anti-virus product and leaving Norton, but Norton and I go way, way back. Other anti-virus and security suite programs I have tried have not been as good.

So I came to this website and found this reasonably priced Norton Security Suite 2010 download for $35. Yes!

When I downloaded the product it downloaded quickly and smoothly. Amazon asks you to download an Amazon.com “downloader” program first. Go ahead and do that. Then download Norton.

Much to my joy, the Norton 2010 program spotted the Norton 2009 expired program and actually uninstalled it for me. I did not have to go through downloading the Norton uninstall tool and doing it myself. That was a great blessing.

Then Norton 2010 installed itself. Thank you! (I am a veteran of some previous Norton versions that were not so helpful, to put it mildly.)

But then there was some trouble — the Norton 2010 announced that it was a “trial program” and would “be free for 15 days.” I was not thrilled. I had just paid Amazon.com $35 for the program!

When I clicked “activation,” the Norton 2010 announced that it had found the product key of my previous expired Norton 2009 and would not accept it. It also announced that I did not have any web browsers connected to the internet. Well, I have two web browsers and a high-speed connection.

It also announced that I would have “buy” a “new product key.” That didn’t sound good.

But if this happens to you, remain calm. I activated both of my browsers. Then I finally clicked on a link within Norton 2010 that took me to a “Live Support” tech at Symantec. I just said that my subscription expired the day before, I had downloaded Norton 2010, it would not recognize my product key for renewal, and it seemed to have trouble recognizing my browsers.

I did not mention that it was an Amazon.com download or the trial period message.

The tech was very helpful. With my permission he downloaded a little Symantec remote access program in one of my browsers, pulled up all the details of my previous subscription, input a new product key, and behold — Norton 2010 is now subscribed for 366 days.

The program seems to have more bells and whistles than Norton 2009. I have given it four stars instead of five stars only for whole “trial period” routine and rejecting my renewal product key.

So far, the program seems to be working fine. If that changes, I will revisit this review, but so far it seems like an improved version of 2009.
